Energizer 360° Cap Light

I don’t know anybody who can’t use a good flashlight. These days lights that are sewn into or attached to ball caps are very popular and have many uses in the field. The advantage of this type of light is that both hands are kept free allowing you to work unencumbered.

This new model has a twist – literally. It not only attaches to the bill of your hat but you can attach it to the interior of a ground hunting blind, your tree stand, web gear, pack straps, your shirt pocket – almost anywhere you could think of where you might need very bright light directed. The white light has a two position switch for high and low intensity. There is a second switch marked in red on the control panel that activates a red beam which is useful for walking in and out of your hunting area without alarming game. It also is useful for reading maps or checking your GPS as well.

The back cap is the battery door and has a locking position which locks the battery compartment solidly. It seals out the elements while securing the battery so there is no rattle to be heard. This little led lamp runs on one AA battery and while we used the Energizer 360 almost daily in our extensive field test it has not required a replacement battery in almost 4 months of service.

The olive drab green and black outer case blends right in with most camouflage patterns. There is a tension adjustment at the bottom of the main casing to keep the swivel ball in place where the light is to be directed. The spring on the cap mount seems to be a little too strong when attaching the 360 light to the bill of a cap but when attaching to web gear or the interior of a blind it seems to be just right.

Running a guide and outfitter service we have used lots of different types of flashlights but the Energizer 360 Cap Light has quickly become one of our favorites. I would definitely recommend the Energizer 360 Cap Light to any serious hunter, fisherman, backpacker or camper. I would like to offer a big thank you to the Energizer Corp. for consistently providing innovative products for the outdoors.

Sasquatch Lanyards

Upland Lanyard

My never ending search for American-made products and fine hunting gear has taken me to the newest North American Gun Dog Association sponsor, Sasquatch Lanyards. Handmade in the state of Michigan, this family-owned company has been producing call lanyards and hauler straps for the several years. After looking over their product line I decided to give Carl (Sasquatch) and his son Aaron a phone call. I had an idea for a new lanyard design for upland bird hunting and I knew they could help me with it. The new design would incorporate a bit longer main length with a side drop for a secondary whistle on a swivel. I explained to them what I wanted and together we came up with a new design for the Hi Viz upland tournament team. Within an hour our conversation I received an e-mail with a photograph of the new prototype upland lanyard. The prototype was built using my specifications as far as the length of the main lanyard and the positioning of the secondary whistle drop.

Three days later, 6 new finished lanyards had arrived in the mail. I was impressed with the quality  of the Sasquatch lanyards. The wide weave on the upper part of the lanyard behind the neck was quite comfortable. I attached a Fox 40 whistle to the main drop and the clear competition Roy Gonia to the side drop to serve as a spare. The new style of lanyard was quite flexible and at the same time quite stylish. For years guys in the wetlands have been hunting with beautifully woven call lanyards and now there is a design that has been modified to accommodate the upland bird hunters. They have also have made a new modification to the upland design which will  hold a whistle at the main position at the bottom of the drop and a duck call drop on the side for the field trial competitors and hunt testers of the retriever breeds. I’m sure you’ll see a number of the competitors at the NAGDA nationals wearing the new Sasquatch lanyards. My entire tournament hunting team will be wearing them as well as all of the competitors in the ladies division and the youth divisions. Check out their website at http://www.sasquatchlanyards.webs.com/ or visit them on Facebook where you can chat with them and make your custom order. You can also check  out www.nagdog.com to learn more about tournament hunting and they also have a link to Sasquatch Lanyards on their sponsor page.
See you in the upland.
